News - ASIA NEW ZEALAND FILM FOUNDATION’S SHORT FILM WORKSHOP
Tuesday 16 November 2004

The Asia New Zealand Film Foundation Trust, in partnership with the New Zealand Asia Institute and Creative Communities, has organised a workshop introducing the art and craft of short filmmaking on 27 and 28 November 2004 at the University of Auckland.

This workshop is aimed at Asian New Zealanders to encourage story telling in the form of films.

The increasing diversity of Aotearoa is somehow not reflected by the mainstream media. Nor is there an attempt to get away from stereotypes or understand different cultures.

One way to change perceptions is tell stories through films. There are few Asians in the film, television and media industry of New Zealand. Most Asians have traditionally selected careers in medicine, engineering and commerce and ignored the arts and creativity. Many dream of making films but are unsure or just don't know how to go about it.

This workshop provides opportunity to learn about different aspects of filmmaking like screenwriting, producing, directing documentaries and dramas as well as funding opportunities.

Some of the guest speakers are Professor Duncan Petrie, head of department film, television and media studies, The University of Auckland, Sándor Lau, Fulbright scholar and award wining docmentary maker, Alex Lee, producer, director and entertainment lawyer and Linda Halle of the Screen Innovation Production Fund who will talk about funding.

There will also be a panel discussion with Asian filmmakers, producers and actors. Various short NZ films shall be screened through the workshop.

Where:- Room 32, Clock Tower Building, University of Auckland, Princes Street.

When:- 27-28 November.

Registration fees:- $30/person
