News - New Art Centre all about ‘opening doors’
Wednesday 17 November 2004

Kamo Intermediate School’s new performing arts centre is built on a vision of children following their dreams.
The centre will be officially opened tomorrow at 11.45am with a powhiri and performance by the students.
Music specialist Graham Hughes says the centre is built on a dream that children can be the best they can be, so it was given the name “Dar 2 Dream” or the D2D Zone”.
Graham enthusiastically describes the opportunities that the centre will offer the students, such as state-of-the-art computer software used for animation and film-making and music programmes.
“My belief is that there are more Peter Jacksons and Richard Taylors in our midst, so we are providing the materials for them. It’s about opening doors”.
Graham says credit for the centre should also go the school’s principal John Smith whose vision for the school made it possible.
“It’s a great environment to work in and this is reflected in the kids”.
The centre includes sound proof music rooms, computer room, and a room for the school’s radio station KIS FM (frequently 107.5 within a 2km radius of the school), dance studio and drama room.
