News - A WORD OF ADVICE FROM CREATIVE NEW ZEALAND
Friday 19 November 2004

We received feedback recently from Creative New Zealand in regard to all the Performing Arts applications appearing from Northland.

The amount of applications was very encouraging, indicating that the Performing Arts are alive and active in Northland. However there are a few simple mistakes occurring with these applications, which may preventing them from being successful.

Some pointers follow:
1) Script Inclusion:
Always make sure you include a copy of the script for the play/performance you are applying for funding for.
Don't make the assumption that the assessment panel has always read the relevant material.
2) Application Forms:
Ensure you complete these forms as fully as possible. They are a pre-requisite for applications to be processed.
3) Letters of Support/Endorsement: If you are not known by the current assessment panel letters of support are a factor in helping panels decide whether to approve applications. Creative NZ and the Panel need to know that there are proven paths of credibility, even if they don't know of them.
4) Re-Submission of Applications
Before re-submitting an application you are required to speak to the Arts Advisor, for the Performing Arts this is John McDavitt. Don't forget to talk to the Advisor, even if you don't wish to re-submit. They are there to help and can provide very useful information on reasons why your application may have failed!
And they are happy to assess applications before you submit them.

5) Arts Advisors & The Assessment Panels
It does need to be remembered that the Arts Advisor does not have a say in whether applications are successful or not. The Arts Board has the final say.
