Poise at Punaruku
Cultural groups from many Bay of Islands schools and some from Whangrei and Auckland gathered at Punaruku, on the Old Russell Rd about 50km north- east of Whangrei, on Friday, for the annual Punaruku School Cultural Festival.
Ngaiatonga Valley, Paihia Primary, Russell Primary, Summerland Primary, Te Horo Primary, Raurimu Primary, Whananaki Primary, Henderson Intermediate, Manaia View, Tikipunga Primary and Mokau Kohanga Reo joined with Punuruku and Helena Bay Schools to celebrate Maori Culture.
While hundreds of their families and supporters watched on, the children entertained with a variety of kapa haka and waiata and from Summerland in west Auckland some Polynesian songs as well.
The festival, which kicked off at 10am, had a hangi break before performances continued until 2pm.
